The fourth regional gathering of IFJ attended by journalism unions that are members of the world of Arab and Iran was held in Casablanca in Morocco from May 19th to 21st.In this gathering which was held with the cooperation of Moroccan journalists, the representatives of journalism associations of 13 countries including Algeria, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, Emirates, Yemen, Sudan, Somali and Libya had taken part. This sitting was about the issues and present challenges that professional journalists and journalism associations face and the report of International Federation of Journalists performance was presented and the advancements made on five key issues, agreed upon in Beirut and Algeria gatherings, which are as follows were reviewed:1- Unity in critical conditions2- Collective movement for legal amendments3- Professional independence and media with high quality4- Freedom of guild activities and social rights5- Gender equality The gathering was held in three days:On the first day and in the inauguration ceremony, the chief of executive committee of IFI explained the agenda and Mr. Mojahed, the head of Moroccan journalism association as the host, wished for a successful seminar. Later, the representatives of the participating countries gave a report of the status of journalism in their country.On the second day, two workshops concerning the status of journalism in the year 2007 and preparing the draft for Moral Journalism plan was formed. In the first workshop, a report prepared by IFJ for every country was distributed and the representative made amendments about the mentioned items which were mainly on the issue of journalists status in the year 2007 or at present so that the report would be ready for publication by IFJ.In the workshop of Moral Journalism plan extensive discussions were made and it was decided a committee would be formed to answer the following questions and prepare the situation for holding some regional seminar. 1) how can we define the principles and key values of journalism?2) Is there any restriction in the freedom of press?3) What are the responsibilities of guild unions concerning promotion of moral journalism.4) Should we allow more interference of governments in running the media?5) What procedures and structures can be applied to promote high professional standards?6) How can we include gender equality in the Morality Journalism plan?At the end of the second day, the reports of workshops were presented by the representatives of IFJ who were managing workshops and the summary was presented.Third day was the summing up of the discussion and free discussion about the how of activities of regional associations in the future. Arab participants mainly believed that there should be a kind of inner division among Arab countries. Due to their disagreements, no final decision was made and more discussions are to be made in this regard.At the end a report was issued including the sum up and recommendations and IFJ through a press statement presented achievements and agreements of the gathering.
